A partition of a positive integer N is a set of positive integers whose sum is N. This talk will survey how ideas about partitions and their generalization compositions can be used to get new insights into geometrical problems. The origin of these ideas grew out of work by Branko Grünbaum on a new (1995) result about convex 4-gons.
