Global nonlinear stability of self-gravitating matter: an introduction

I will give a non-technical overview of my recents results about the Einstein equations for matter fields evolving under their own gravitational field. The study of the global evolution problem for matter fields and nonlinear propagation phenomena in spacetimes requires a combination of many ideas from differential geometry, nonlinear hyperbolic PDE theory, nonlinear elliptic PDE theory, and numerical analysis.
