B.A. at College of Arts & Science (CAS) Overview
The undergraduate division of the Department of Mathematics, in both the College of Arts and Science and the Tandon School of Engineering, offers a wide variety of courses in pure and applied mathematics. Most of the faculty is associated with the university’s Courant Institute ofMathematical Sciences, one of the leading mathematical institutes worldwide, with a unique tradition of associating pure and applied mathematics.
The B.A. in Mathematics at the College of Arts and Science offers a formation in both pure and applied mathematics. Joint programs are available in mathematics and (1) computer science, (2) economics, (3) data science, (4) and engineering. They lead to the B.A. in four years, with the exception of the engineering option, which leads to a joint B.S./B.S. degree from NYU and NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Additionally, an accelerated B.A. and M.S. degree in Mathematics or Mathematics of Finance, as well as a M.A. in Math Education with Steinhardt, from New York University in five years is offered. The department also provides an honors program in (1) mathematics, (2) mathematics and computer science, and (3) mathematics and economics for outstanding students. Additionally, independent study and internship courses are available for students with special interests.
