The extrema of branching Brownian motion in any dimension

Speaker: Yujin Kim, Courant (NYU)

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 517

Date: Monday, November 6, 2023, 12:30 p.m.

Synopsis:

In this talk, we will review the study of the extrema of BBM (those particles which are furthest from the origin) in dimension d=1, which has proven over the last decade to have important applications in the study of random matrices, random surfaces, lattice models, PDEs, etc. After discussing some of these applications, we will discuss the extrema in d>1, which possesses interesting geometric structures that have only been investigated recently.
