A note on contacting me:
When I was an undergraduate, sometime long ago in the late
holocene, I remember trying to contact professors at large
research universities, and was horrified when they did not promptly respond
to my e-mail. As a faculty member, I understand why: I
get enormous amounts of e-mail every day, and sometimes important
messages get lost. Part of the blame can be attributed to the
spam filters (mine actually tried to eat the notice from our
provost to notify me of my tenure, as messages with the subject
line "congratulations" are generally suspect!) But more important
is the shear number of e-mails that require a response. So please do not hesitate to contact
me twice if I don't respond. If I miss 1 in 20 important
messages, the chances of missing two of your e-mails is just 1 in 400!
