Honors III: Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences
This course will focus on the mathematical methods used in solving problems that arise in physics, chemistry, biology and engineering, drawing from ordinary and partial differential equations, linear algebra, complex analysis, Fourier analysis and integral transforms. It differs from Introduction to Mathematical Modeling in that less emphasis is placed on the derivation of models and more on solution techniques and the mathematical theories that arose from solving problems in the natural sciences.
Prerequisites
Calculus III and Linear Algebra, but some exposure to ordinary and partial differential equations and complex anaysis is recommended.Textbook

Grading will be based on a combination of class participation/presentation (30%), group projects (30 %) and an in-class final (40%). You are encouraged to write up your homework and submit in PDF format, generated using LaTeX, Word, etc. If you don't already know LaTeX, it is a typesetting system for producing high-quality scientific and mathematical documents, and it is worthwhile learning.
