Research Interests

I am a physical climate scientist who studies phenomena relating to the polar regions and their impacts on global climate. My current research focuses on computer modeling of the interaction between the Earth’s great ice sheets and global ocean waters, as well as the acquisition and implementation of observational data to improve polar climate models. At New York University, I am a Professor of Mathematics and Atmosphere-Ocean Science at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences (CIMS), a member of the Center for Atmosphere-Ocean Science (CAOS), and Director of the Environmental Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (EFDL). I have published approximately 200 peer-reviewed articles on polar and environmental science. I am an elected fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and The Explorers Club (TEC) for my theoretical and observational efforts in ice-ocean interaction science.
