Algebraic Geometry Seminar

Very functorial, very quick, and very easy resolution of singularities.

Speaker: Michael McQuillan, University of Roma Tor Vergata

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 317

Date: Tuesday, November 13, 2018, 3:30 p.m.

Synopsis:

Rather than seek to create an invariant of singularities which
decreases under blow ups in smooth centres (which, inter alia cannot even
be done without including the history of the resolution process in the
invariant) the resolution of the talk will proceed by a fairly, albeit not
wholly, optimal choice of a weighted centre adapted to the singularity,
which in turn defines a wholly (i.e. independent of any history) functorial
invariant which decreases on a weighted blow up in the said centre.
