Non-Degree Study

You may take up to four courses in any department as a non-degree student.  GRE scores and letters of recommendation are not required. However, an undergraduate transcript is required, and admission is competitive. Please specify in the Statement of Purpose which courses you would like to take.

  • Information about NYU's summer sessions is available here.
  • New York University does not offer F-1 or J-1 visa sponsorship to non-degree students.
  • Courses taken as a non-degree student will count toward a degree if it is part of the curriculum. For example, MATH-GA 2110 Linear Algebra will not count toward the M.S. in Math Finance or Certificate in Math Finance because it is a prerequisite for these programs. However, Linear Algebra will count toward the M.S. in Mathematics.
  • You can take up to four courses, after which you must apply to enroll in a degree program to continue.

Application Deadlines

The following application deadlines apply for both American and foreign students:

  • Admission for non-degree study - August 1 (Fall), November 1 (Spring)
  • Admission for non-degree study in Mathematics in Finance - August 1 (Fall), December 1 (Spring)
  • Admission for summer study - Dates are flexible
