Formation of shocks near a wall
Speaker: John Anderson, Stony Brook University
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1302
Date: Thursday, October 8, 2026, 11 a.m.
Synopsis:
Interactions of shocks with boundaries like walls can lead to interesting phenomena, like mach stems. This talk will focus on describing one stable way that preshocks (the precursors to shocks) can form near a wall. The first part of the talk will focus on how preshocks form far away from any boundary. The second part of the talk will focus on some of the differences caused by the presence of a wall. This is joint work in preparation with Sanchit Chaturvedi.
