Mostly Biomathematics Lunchtime Seminar
Neural computation of color
Speaker: Robert Shapley, NYU
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1314
Date: Tuesday, October 20, 2026, 12:45 p.m.
Synopsis:
Color is important in human vision – for finding and identifying visual targets and for remembering them. Color perception is understood better than most behaviors in terms of neural mechanisms. The two lectures are about neural computations of color.
We will discuss Light and Color, Energy Spectra of light sources, Reflectance Spectra of objects, Metamers and color matching, Cone Photoreceptors, color computations in the Retina, for example, Single-opponent cells in Retina
