Synopsis:

The right way to describe very large systems of particles is often through kinetic equations. I will present the most important example, the Boltzmann equation, and explain what is known mathematically on its derivation. While the Boltzmann equation deals with classical particles, the situation for quantum particles is much less understood, and I will try to explain what the difficulties are.
