Synopsis:
Scalar curvature is a weak notion of curvature describe the average local bending of a Riemannian manifold. It naturally appears in geometry, topology, analysis and mathematical general relativity. I will describe some rigidity and flexibility phenomena related to scalar curvature, and recent advances in its investigation using Gromov style macroscopic geometry.
