Diffusive limit of a tagged particle in mean field interaction with a Rayleigh gas

Synopsis:

We consider the deterministic evolution of a tagged particle interacting with a free gas through a mean field potential. We study this system at equilibrium and in dimension larger or equal to 4. After appropriate time rescaling, we show that in the mean field limit, the tagged particle evolves according to a stochastic differential equation associated with the linear Landau equation.
