Scaling Limits of the Membrane Model
Speaker: Eric Thoma, CIMS
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 312
Date: Tuesday, March 29, 2022, 9:50 a.m.
Synopsis:
The membrane model is a random discrete interface in the same family as the discrete Gaussian free field (GFF). Unlike the GFF, there is no random walk representation for the covariance, and many standard arguments are unavailable. In this talk, I will introduce the model, what is known about it, and some open questions. I will focus on recent progress proving various scaling limits for non-Gaussian membrane models by using variational methods to analyze an associated PDE.
