Algebraic Geometry Seminar
Resolution of Tame Quotient Singularities
Speaker: Federico Buonerba, Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 201
Date: Tuesday, May 20, 2014, 2 p.m.
Synopsis:
In this talk I would like to discuss a proof of the existence of a resolution of singularities arising from tame actions of finite groups on smooth algebraic varieties. After reviewing some basic facts from the machinery of toric varieties, I will explain why tame quotient singularities are best understood in the framework of local toroidal embeddings. Then I will explain how to patch local toroidal desingularizations to a global one. This is joint with F. Bogomolov.
