CAS Calculus Information
Below are the prerequisites and placement policies for calculus courses. For more information about the courses, please refer to our undergraduate course descriptions.
A note on the Math for Economics Sequence and the Calculus Requirement
Students who have declared or plan to declare an Economics major or Joint Math/Economics Major can use the MATHUA 131, 132, and 133 Math for Economics I III sequence to substitute for the MATHUA 121, 122 and 123 Calculus I III requirements. You will have to get this approved by the Math Department. All other students must use the Calculus sequence. Students cannot mixandmatch, combine, our double count between the Math for Economics and Calculus sequences no exceptions! If you have any questions regarding the Math for Economics and Calculus requirements, please contact the Math Department.

CAS Bulletin Guide to Advanced Placement Credit
Students who receive a 4 or better on the AB test will receive 4 points of credit for MATHUA 121 Calculus I. Students who receive a 4 on the BC will receive 4 points of credit for MATHUA 121 Calculus I; those who received a 5 on the BC will receive 8 point of credit for MATHUA 121 Calculus I and MATHUA 122 Calculus II.
If you received AP credits for a calculus course, and you register for the same course, you will forfeit your AP credits.
A score of 4 or 5 on the AP Precalculus examination satisfies the prerequisite for MATHUA 121, 131, 120, and 140 (no placement exam needed). These AP credits can never count toward any UA major/minor or to any UACORE requirement (they are elective credits toward the baccalaureate degree).
