Mostly Biomathematics Lunchtime Seminar
Time-averaging in ecological models and experiments
Speaker: Clare Abreu, Center for Genomics & Systems Biology, Department of Biology
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1314
Date: Tuesday, November 19, 2024, 12:45 p.m.
Synopsis:
Environmental fluctuations have been implicated in the maintenance of ecological diversity. Specifically, fluctuating between conditions results in an outcome that cannot be described as a simple time-average across those conditions, according to some mathematical models. I will review when time-averaging can and cannot be assumed in models, and how these predictions compare to results from microbial community experiments.
