Geometry Seminar
The Kirchhoff matrix tree theorem, reconsidered
Speaker: Sylvain Cappell, NYU Courant Institute
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1314 and on Zoom
Date: Tuesday, December 2, 2025, 6 p.m.
Synopsis:
In this talk a different elementary approach is made to the following problem: Given a connected graph G with chosen vertex v as a root, enumerating all trees of G rooted at v with edges directed towards v. That is, arborescences rooted at v. It uses an exterior algebra rather than the closely related determinants.
This is joint work with Ed Miller.
