Rationality in algebraic geometry
Speaker: Alena Pirutka, Courant
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1302
Date: Friday, March 25, 2022, 11:15 a.m.
Synopsis:
One of the main classical problems in algebraic geometry is to classify algebraic varieties, defined by polynomial equations. In particular, one would like to understand if the solutions of these equations admit a rational parametrization.
In this talk I will review classical results in this area, in the case of curves, surfaces, and threefolds, and then I will report on progress in the last decade. No background in algebraic geometry is needed for this talk.
