Graduate Student / Postdoc Seminar
Data analysis through optimal transport
Speaker: Esteban Tabak, NYU Courant
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1302
Date: Friday, October 7, 2022, 1 p.m.
Synopsis:
One often wishes to determine how a variable x depend on factors z, such as how the effect of a medical treatment depends on the treatment itself and on characteristics of the patient. This talk will describe how to use a set of observed pairs (x_i, z_i) to simulate the conditional probability rho(x|z) for any value of z, with tools based on the mathematical theory of optimal transport. Related problems we will discuss include “factor discovery”: finding hidden factors z that help explain variability in a variable x.
Notes:
Pizza and drink will be served at 1pm and the talk will start at 1:15pm
