Modeling and Simulation Group Meeting

Student Presentations: Modeling, Simulation and Experiment in Fluid Dynamics

Speaker:

Location: TBA

Date: Thursday, May 13, 2021, 12:30 p.m.

Synopsis:

We'll have 4 short talks given by participants in the RTG graduate course "Advanced Topics in Applied Math: Modeling, Simulation and Experiment in Fluid Dynamics" taught by Prof. Leif Ristroph. The project-based course uses the Applied Math Lab to explore how modeling and simulation can usefully interact with experiments and experimental data. This semester's course explored a variety of topics that will be covered in the following presentations:
1) "The hydrodynamics of drinking straws" by Olivia Pomerenk & Simon Carrillo
2) "Fluid mechanical erosion and the origin of the Great Sphinx" by Samuel Boury and Scott Weady
3) "Lab icebergs melt down and flip out" by Hanyu Zhou & Scott Weady
4) "Twisting arms to better understand the Feynman reverse sprinkler" by Sylvie Bronsard & Ajeet Gary
