Modeling and Simulation Group Meeting
An Inverse Problem in the Crossbridge Dynamics of Muscle
Speaker: Charlie Peskin, partner: Xuenan Li, Courant
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1302
Date: Thursday, February 17, 2022, 12:30 p.m.
Synopsis:
In the 1930s, A.V. Hill made careful macroscopic measurements on the
mechanics and thermodynamics of contracting muscle. In this talk,
we use Hill's observations to determine molecular properties of the
central engine of muscle contraction, which is called the crossbridge.
Despite some loose ends, our results are in striking overall agreement
with 21st-century data.
