Nina Holden Elected to the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters

June 16, 2026

It was announced this week that Nina Holden, Associate Professor of Mathematics, was among the 2026 Members elected to the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.

Founded in 1857, The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters is a non-governmental, nationwide, and interdisciplinary body which embraces all fields of learning. Since 2003, the Academy has awarded the Abel Prize annually for outstanding scientific work in mathematics. Members are divided into sections; Professor Holden is recognized in the Mathematics and Natural Sciences category.

Professor Holden focuses on probability theory and mathematical physics, including topics such as Liouville quantum gravity, Schramm-Loewner evolutions, random planar maps, and statistical physics. She received her PhD at MIT and joined Courant's faculty in 2022. Professor Holden received the Maryam Mirzakhani New Frontiers Prize for her "groundbreaking work in random geometry, particularly on Liouville Quantum Gravity as a scaling limit of random triangulations" in 2021. In 2023, she was awarded the Rollo Davidson Prize for her "leading work on random planar maps and Liouville quantum gravity."
