Quantifying extrinsic and intrinsic noise in cellular dynamics

Speaker: Mingtao Xia, Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1314

Date: Tuesday, October 29, 2024, 12:45 p.m.

Synopsis:

In the talk, I shall introduce our recent work on developing machine-learning-based methods for quantifying two types of noise in noisy cellular dynamics: extrinsic noise (heterogeneity among cells for the same underlying biophysical model) and intrinsic noise (intrinsic fluctuation in the stochastic process characterizing cellular dynamics). I will then discuss how to apply my methods to reconstruct stochastic processes in cellular dynamics such as the Langevin dynamics and fluctuations in protein count from data.
