Stable degeneration of singularities

Synopsis:

A theorem of Donaldson and Sun says that the metric tangent cones of non-collapsing Gromov-Hausdorff limits of Kähler-Einstein manifolds are affine algebraic varieties. They further speculate that there is an algebro-geometric construction of the tangent cone. I will present a stable degeneration theory of singularities (originally conjectured by Li and Xu) that provides such a construction. It also implies that every mild singularity on a complex algebraic variety has an algebraic degeneration to a Ricci flat Kähler cone. Based on joint work with Chenyang Xu.
