The Going Down Theorem and a Brief Introduction to Valuations

Synopsis:

In this talk, I will discuss the Going Down Theorem and its proof, while revisiting some of the ideas discussed in the previous lecture. Towards the end of the hour, I will introduce valuation rings and their basic properties. The material covered will be sourced primarily from Atiyah-Macdonald Commutative Algebra Chapter 5.
