Synopsis:
String Geometry is an area in mathematics that can be traced back to works of Mathematicians and Phycisists (notably Edward Witten) from the 80's. The starting point of most investigations into string geometry is to view a spinning string as a spinning point particle in an infinite-dimensional space (namely the loop space). The geometry of spinning point particles in finite dimensions is known as spin geometry, and has been extremely important in both physics and mathematics. In this talk, I will give a (non-technical) overview of spin geometry, and use this as a tool to discuss the status of string geometry, and my plans to develop this area of mathematics
