Student Probability Seminar

Boolean functions and probability theory

Speaker: Yuval Peled, CIMS

Location: TBA

Date: Wednesday, December 9, 2020, 10 a.m.

Synopsis:

Boolean functions play a key role in many areas of mathematics and computer science. The study of Boolean functions relies heavily on Fourier analysis, but in recent years new tools, involving probabilistic arguments and stochastic analysis, have been developed in this area. In the seminar we will introduce the basic notions and inequalities in the analysis of Boolean functions, describe several of their applications in probability theory, and present the ideas behind the new probabilistic frameworks that are used to establish such inequalities.
