Limits of Pfaffian Cubic Fourfolds

Synopsis:

I will explain an interesting stratification of the space of cubic fourfolds with a discriminant 14 marking, in terms of the Brill-Noether properties (in the sense of Lazarsfeld and Mukai) of associated K3 surfaces. Pfaffian cubic fourfolds are those of Brill-Noether general type while cubic fourfolds containing two skew planes have Brill-Noether special type. More generally, I will discuss how the geometry of cubic fourfolds is reflected in the Brill-Noether properties of special divisors on curves in their associated K3 surfaces.
