Homogenization and Statistical Mechanics

Synopsis:

I will explain how elliptic homogenization arises unexpectedly in the context of scaling limits of certain gradient Gibbs models and how this connection, which originated in the work of Naddaf and Spencer (1997), has greatly enhanced our understanding both problems.
